This online professional course teaches participants how to successfully interpret and classify wetlands from aerial imagery and high-resolution satellite imagery. While there are many ways to extract wetland features from imagery, all of them require the user to know how to interpret them first. For instance, automated classification requires training sites, which are features with a known classification.
The learner will learn about Imagery and Ancillary Data (sources, examples, and data characteristics), how to Identify and Classify Wetland and Deepwater Systems and Subsystems according to Classification of Wetlands and Deepwater Habitats of the United States (Cowardin, et al.)); how to Identify and Classify Wetland and Deepwater Classes (according to Classification of Wetlands and Deepwater Habitats of the United States (Cowardin, et al.)); supplemental information regarding interpretation of Subclasses and Water Regimes.
This course was created by Robert Goodwin and David P. Lusch, Ph.D. from Remote Sensing & GIS Research and Outreach Services (RS&GIS) at Michigan State University and is a product of years of Land Cover interpretation course development.
