Flying drones legally for non-recreational applications requires operators to obtain a Remote Pilot Certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The process for obtaining a certificate includes a background check and a passing score on the unmanned aircraft system (UAS) aeronautical exam (part 107).
The primary goal of this course is to prepare registrants for the aeronautical exam. Detailed lessons focused on Weather, Regulations, Airspace, and Operations, combined with hands-on exercises, self-assessments, and demonstration videos, will provide participants with all the necessary information to successfully pass the exam. A secondary, but important, goal is to educate participants on the process of properly collecting and processing drone imagery into useful products useful to various industries, including construction, agriculture, law enforcement and others. While not covered on the exam, information regarding data collection and processing will provide registrants with knowledge important for anyone wishing to deploy drones.
This course was developed by experienced remote pilots who are also certified GIS professionals. This combination of drone deployment and mapping expertise resulted in a course that is informative and, more importantly, applicable.
Certificate: This course can be used as a specialization for the Professional GIS Certificate or can be taken individually. It is NOT a required course for the Certificate.
