Override Policy for onGEO Undergraduate Courses

Online courses have risen in popularity and with that the demand for enrollment in those courses. We have set the maximum enrollment in our courses to the number of students the instructor can reasonably accommodate without compromising student learning, response time, and quality of feedback.

For the reasons noted above, the policy is to not grant overrides into full sections of Online Geography courses. We ask that students seeking an override sign up for an alert on their schedule builder to receive notification (via email or text) when/if a seat opens up in the course.

Exceptions to this policy may be considered in the following two cases:

  1. students who are graduating that semester and the course is required by their degree program
  2. students who need to repeat the course

In each of the cases listed above, students should contact Dr. Ryan Shadbolt <shadbolt@msu.edu> in the Department of Geography, Environment, and Spatial Sciences so that course need can be verified and the appropriate action taken.

Please note: Overrides are only processed during the open enrollment period; please see the Academic Calendar for more information.
