  • Beth Weisenborn

    [ Director of Online Courses ]


    Beth Weisenborn develops and manages courses for the onGEO group of the Department of Geography at Michigan State. She has a Bachelor of Science in geography with a specialization in cartography and a minor in biology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Beth went on to work with Dr. Randall J. Schaetzl for her Master of Science in geography with a specialization in soil geography and geomorphology and minor in geological sciences at Michigan State University. After earning her degree, she began developing the online version of People and Environment with Dr. Alan F. Arbogast. From there, Beth has developed and managed the rest of the online courses for the Department of Geography at State, eventually becoming Director of Online Courses in Geography (onGEO). When she is not working, Beth enjoys coaching lacrosse, traveling, and having fun with her family.

  • Juliegh Bookout

    [ Online Course Developer & Coordinator ]


    Juliegh Bookout began her career with Online Geography in 2003 as an incoming graduate student.  She worked as an online instructor for several summers, before earning her Master's degree in geography in December of 2006 at Michigan State University and coming on board full-time as an Online Course Developer & Coordinator. She currently works with faculty and staff to develop new courses, and update  and maintain existing courses. Juliegh also works closely with the graduate student instructors, managing courses behind the scenes to make sure students have an enjoyable and rewarding learning experience. When she is not working, or managing her household, which includes three busy children, Juliegh enjoys doing CrossFit.

  • Yi

    Yi Shi

    [ Associate Director of Professional Courses; Assistant Professor ]


    Dr. Yi Shi teaches, develops, and manages the Professional Courses for the onGEO group of the Department of Geography, Environment, and Spatial Sciences at Michigan State University. Dr. Shi's Bachelor's and Master's degrees are in Geography from Nanjing University and his Ph.D. is in Geography (specializing in GIS) from Michigan State. After earning his Ph.D., Dr. Shi worked as a GIS and Research Specialist for the Institute of Water Research, Precision Agriculture Lab at Michigan State and, more recently, in the private sector. Dr. Shi has a wide range of research, teaching and professional experiences in the world of geospatial technologies and their applications. Dr. Shi has developed many GIS applications for different clients including governments at all levels. When he is not working, Yi enjoys traveling and playing tennis.

  • Grant

    Grant Gunn

    [ Advising Faculty and Intructor; Fixed Term Assistant Professor ]


    Dr. Grant Gunn is a Fixed Term Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography, Environment, and Spatial Sciences at Michigan State University. His undergraduate degree was specialized in Geographic Information Systems and Science and Master's and Ph.D. focused on remote sensing of the cryosphere in polar regions. After earning his Ph.D. from the University of Waterloo, Dr. Gunn worked as a Geospatial Advisor at Agriculture Canada, providing GIS analysis and support for agricultural research in Southern Ontario. Grant has taught remote sensing and hydroclimatology courses at the University of Waterloo and is currently researching microwave remote sensing of lake ice at Michigan State University while teaching geospatial technology courses offered by onGEO. When he is not working, Grant enjoys traveling, playing baseball, and is a fanatical hockey fan (Go Leafs!).
